of the night bazaar

every sunday night, stretching between two enormous buddhist temples, the 'night bazaar' EXPLODES. streets and streets are lined with thais and there stalls selling everything you could ever imainge exists. i was far too distracted by the buckets of pad thai and the tables and tables of handicrafts from the hill tribs that i didnt take many pictures. but holy MOLY. i didnt even buy anything (except potato on a stick and waffles shaped like fish and filled with chocolate) but could have walked for hours and hours and hours. the smells and the colors and the people and the sounds. a delicious overload to all the senses. omg and i tried the most delicious thing in the entire world = tamarind with sugar and salt. what is this fantastic concoction? it is heaven. thai heaven (i wonder where that is?)  i will be there. every sunday.

of adventure

maybe i recently had the most beautiful moment of my life

i spent an entire day on the back of uncle nikons scooter, exploring sangkampeng (a horrible romanization of the town i live in) we stopped by a house of one particular friend who lived far in the country side in a completely bare wood house on stilts. i sat on the concrete stoop, in the sun, sipping (my favorite) mystery orange drink in a bag of ice, watching the thai cows graze in the field in front of the mountains. this was it. i may or may not have teared up. purely unbelieveably majestic and it hit me like a ton of sticky rice. im in love.

a little introduction

sawadti ka! in case you didnt know. i, margo meyer, am in thailand. and it is the most amazing place i have ever been. its dirty, friendly and 6000 degrees and all i can say is, thank you dad. already i can feel provo being sucked from my veins with every bite of sticky rice. invigorating. i live in a house (you will be introduced in a second) 20 or so km from chiang mai city, and so internet is a rare delicacy. but since i have this rare opportunity. meet-
my siblings poo, pee and pim(for real).
the first night i flew in, they welcomed me by screaming in thai and throwing a gecko and its (detached) tail down my shirt.
poopeepim

this is our house where me and another girl live with tu (mom), poopoopim, uncle nikon, and an older couple who speak absolutely no english and laugh when i dont understand thai. which is all the time. the facilitators for our group call this the 'princess house' as it has walls, toilets (no toilet paper.apparently this country does not believe in paper touching the skin = butt sprayers, no napkins), showers and window panes.

this is uncle nikon. he tried to hide his cigarette for the picture cause hes does 'naughty old men things' like smoking. and buddha knows what else. he speaks the most english and has a scooter i spend alot of time on the back of. there is nothing in the world like scooter rides through the thai countryside. oh my gosh.

nam chok and  nam tan. i think they have fleas

and this is auntie old lady. shes very wise. ( i have yet to take a picture of, or talk to her shirtless husband. i only catch glimpses of him at ridiculous hours in the morning)

they are all very pleased to meet you

a little mo from singapo!

a little while before i had to catch a taxi to the airport, i took little shek (see post below) on the singapore boardwalk.  its this tall tall metal boardwalk on stilts that goes for miles with all these different levels. beautiful. words cannot describe the sheer IMMENSITY of greenness jungle. it was unbelievable. it looked like the steamy vines could swallow up the entire city. but i think the humidty was like 134 percent and the temperature in the 200s and my grey shirt wasnt so gray when i got back. but holy moly. it was hard to hurry to get a taxi and not stay and explore. im in thailand now. more details (and pictures) will come :). but internet is extremely scarce, so we will just have to see what happens. but im safe dad. chill.

dear paradisiacal singapore,
our romance was short but sweet, sweaty and sensational. my only wish, that the monkeys came to visit more often.
