because the beautiful kingdom of thailand is 117% buddhist, there are wats (temples) literally on every corner. (the one above is across from my house house) these things are unbelievably and undescribably ornate and majestic, covered from top to bottom in everything gold, blue, red, swirly. like a giant, asian gingerbread house. last week me and a few other girls went up to wat sutep, a famous wat sitting right on top of an enormous mountain in chiang mai that can be seen from anywhere in the city. we were given lotus flowers, candles and insence to light and set infront of giant gold buddhas. it was gorgeous and foreign and so different from anything ive ever seen, smelled or done. apparently i looked pretty funny at the wat, cause everyone was smiling and pointing and laughing. although that happens most everywhere i go. i think thai people have some hilarious very exclusive joke that us white people (farangs, as they lovingly call us) are not a part of.
feast your eyeballs. the main part of wat sutep was under construction but never fear, every other nook of the place is crammed with southeast asian, breathtaking deliciousness!
